Clear off a work surface. You want to get your house so that all surfaces are clear of clutter. Maybe you have a toaster or bread maker on the side, maybe a scented candle. So start with one side. Clear off everything possible, except maybe one or two vital things. That bread maker that you haven’t used since last year? Put it in the cupboard! Clear off all papers and all the other rubbish you’ve been throwing on the side too.
Fill one rubbish bag. One of my favourite decluttering techniques is to grab a simple large rubbish bag and see how quickly I can fill it. While much of what I collect is rubbish, this could also be used to fill a bag for your local charity shop.
Identify clothes to clear out, hang all your clothes with the hangers in the reverse direction. After you wear an item, return it to the wardrobe with the hanger facing the correct direction. After six months, you’ll see which clothes you have worn and which clothes you can recycle.
